Frequently asked questions

Is Nishio free?

Yes. Download it for macOS, Windows or Linux and use it without an account in the cloud.

Do I need a YouTube API key?

Only for official online search. The catalog, imports, notes, plans, scripts and reports work without a key. A key is free from Google Cloud; add it in Settings → YouTube.

Where is my data stored?

In a local database in your user folder: ~/Library/Application Support/Nishio on macOS, %APPDATA%\Nishio on Windows and ~/.config/Nishio on Linux. Use File → Open data folder in the app.

Why isn’t the extension on the Chrome Web Store?

It isn’t published there yet. You install it from a ZIP with “Load unpacked” — it takes about a minute and the steps are on the Extension page.

Why does Windows or macOS warn me?

The Windows installer isn’t code-signed yet, so SmartScreen asks you to confirm (More info → Run anyway). On macOS, choose “Always Allow” when the app asks to use the keychain for your encrypted key.

Does it work offline?

Yes for everything stored locally. Online search, opening YouTube and downloading AI models need the internet.

Does it show CTR, retention or revenue of other channels?

No. Those numbers are private to channel owners. Nishio works with public data you are allowed to use and shows what is missing instead of guessing.

Do I need AI to use it?

No. Research, scores and plans are calculated without AI. If you want writing help, install Ollama and pick a local model in Model manager.

Can my team use it?

Each person installs their own copy with their own data. Inside one installation you can add users with owner, editor or viewer roles.

How do I update?

Download the new version and install it over the old one. Your data folder is kept. For the extension, replace the folder files and reload it in chrome://extensions.

Which languages are supported?

The interface is in English (default), Arabic and French. Research language and output language are chosen separately.
