Import & backup
Bring in data you are allowed to use as CSV, JSON or manual observations, with its source and dates, and keep verified backups of your workspace.
Import evidence
- Click “Import evidence” at the top of most screens.
- Choose the Import format: JSON, CSV, or Manual observation.
- Give the import a Dataset name, then paste the Observation data or use “Choose CSV / JSON file”.
- Tick “I have permission to use this data and have preserved its source URLs and observation times.” and import.
CSV headers: videoId, channelId, channelName, title, url, publishedAt, observedAt, format, language, views. Optional: subscribers, topic, country, likes, comments, notes. Use ISO timestamps, short/long for format and ar/en/fr for language. Leave missing counts blank (or null in JSON): a blank stays unavailable, while a real 0 stays 0. The limit is 5 MB per import.
- An invalid file is rejected as a whole; nothing partial is imported.
- Importing the same observations again adds no duplicates.
- Manual observation lets you type one record with its video and channel IDs, publication and observation times, and permission / license notes.
Create a backup
- Open Settings & team → Private data directory.
- Click “Create verified backup”. The app writes a consistent, checksummed snapshot to the backups folder inside your data folder and shows its path.
- Copy that backup folder somewhere safe, such as an external drive.
Backups include the database, reports and permitted uploaded images. They exclude sign-in sessions, research-browser profiles and your encrypted API key, which you add again after a restore.
Restore is not a button yetRestoring is done with services stopped, using the documented restore command for the source version. A one-click restore inside the desktop app is not available yet. Until then, keep your backup folders safe and unchanged.
Importing does not change the source’s termsYour own data and notes follow your rights; licensed imports follow their license. Saving data locally does not cancel a source’s retention rules.
